FIFA opens a disciplinary investigation against Materazzi

The FIFA announced the opening of an investigation on the Italian soccer player Marco Materazzi. The decision “was carried out because of the first declarations made by the French soccer player Zinedine Zidane, who attacked Materazzi hitting him with his forehead in the final game of the World Cup, July 9th in Berlin”.

Zidane, adds the publication, had expressed in an interview “having reacted to a repeated provocation of the Italian player”. FIFA is going to analyze the circumstances of the incident very deeply.

Zizu, who is also being object of an investigation, “has the right to be listened to and will have to take a position on the aspect before July 18th”. The position will then be remitted to Materazzi, who will have to explain himself.

Both players were convoked for a confrontation that will take place on July 20th in Zurich, in the building of the FIFA, in front of the Commission of discipline of the organization. The interrogatory will take place on closed doors.
